In fact they called those who could not hear well “deafer than the Deaf Port”.

In the regions of Sithonia there are modern tourist infrastructures such as rooms to let and luxury hotels, and visitors can enjoy peaceful holidays as well as partying until the early hours.

The regions that make up the peninsula of Sithonia are the following: Vourvourou, Nikiti, Agios Nikolaos, Ormos Panagias, Meggapitsi, Metamorfosi, Neos Marmaras, Parthenonas, Toroni, Porto Koufo, Sarti, Sykia and Kalamitsi. Whichever area you choose for your holidays you will definitely enjoy magnificent beaches and excellent local food in the diverse villages of the area.

Neos Marmaras

One of the most organized and easily accessible beaches, with many taverns and beach bars all throughout.

Athos

Mount Athos towers imposingly above the sea covered by virgin forests, and a landscape of breathtaking natural beauty. Mount Athos has been inhabited only by monks since 885 AD, when the Byzantine Emperor Basil I declared it sole property of monks and hermits.

The establishment of the first organised monastery took place in 963, and a century later the “avaton” was declared, i.e. the female presence was prohibited entirely. During the period of its prosperity in the 15th century AD there were 40 active monasteries in the peninsula, which hosted about 40,000 monks. Today, that number has diminished to 1,700, and the functioning monasteries are 20.

Male guests are admitted with special permission. Otherwise guests can enjoy the seaside route around the beautiful peninsula.
